1–3–2–4 finger order

How to play it

  1. On one string, play fingers 1–3–2–4 across frets 5–7–6–8.
  2. Pause after each group and check that the wrist and thumb remain comfortable.
  3. Move the group to the next string only when every note is clear.
Read this pattern in words

On low E play fret 5 with finger 1, fret 7 with finger 3, fret 6 with finger 2 and fret 8 with finger 4. Repeat on A and D.

Focus points

  • Preparing the next finger without squeezing
  • Keeping fingertips close to the string
  • Equal note lengths

Common mistakes

  • Twisting the wrist to reach finger four
  • Rushing from finger three back to finger two
Make it easier
Use the 1–2–4–3 order or move higher up the neck.
