Three-note ascending cells

How to play it

  1. Play the first three notes, then begin again from the second note.
  2. Use the written A minor pentatonic fragment and stop after each three-note cell.
  3. Say “one-two-three” quietly to keep each cell even.
Read this pattern in words

Play low E fret 5, low E fret 8, A fret 5. Then low E fret 8, A fret 5, A fret 7. Continue beginning each cell one note later.

Focus points

  • Knowing the new starting note before moving
  • Even three-note groups
  • Clean string changes

Common mistakes

  • Playing the whole shape automatically instead of restarting the cell
  • Adding a gap before the string change
Make it easier
Repeat only the first two cells.
Make it harder
Remove the pause between cells.
